Structural Systems was where I learned the most about Architectural Engineering. I worked on group project with my wonderful classmates, Jenni and Rebecca. I did the majority of the calculations and free body diagrams, and they made beautiful renderings of our design. We were a great team!
Below you can see the development of our design. We liked the idea of a large barrel vault, and I wanted it to flow seamlessly into an inverted arch. However, we also had to make our project structurally sound, so we later abandoned that part of the design.
Below is the rendering that Jenni and Rebecca made of our final design. The massive barrel vault is supported by a truss system, allowing for a large open space underneath with sliding doors.
And here is our gorgeous wooden model (although the actual materials are steel and concrete).
