a free plan design
One of my first projects during my freshman year of studies, 'The Bean' is a free plan house meant to demonstrate an understanding of the basics of free plan, deconstructing the concept of a home to its bare essentials and attempting to maximize open space and exposure without compromising privacy. My method was to create a grid and align elements of the house to that grid, creating the envelope of the facade afterwards by drawing an organic shape around the plan that allowed for the square footage I deemed suitable for the purpose of the space, and nothing more.
