This project for a public library was inspired by my pop-up library design (the project listed below this one on the architecture homepage). In both projects, the main strategy is to use repetition to create density, and to use that density to form different spaces. An area with higher density becomes more private, while the less dense areas form public spaces. Below is a sketch of my idea for the design.

Here are renderings that begin to describe how the rigorous repetition of columns forms unique spaces within the library. I also thought it could be interesting to use the columns to store books, instead of traditional bookshelves, to encourage exploration and eliminate the need for stacks.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to cut more than 300 columns for my physical model, so chose to only represent them in drawings.
